I fully agree with this. There’s an argument that with journeyman then certain fighters wouldn’t fight without them but if fighters are only willing or able to fight journeyman (either because they don’t want to risk fighting someone trying to win or that their original opponent pulled out late in the day) then it’s just not worth it.

There’s an argument that with journeyman then certain fighters wouldn’t fight without them but if fighters are only willing or able to fight journeyman (either because they don’t want to risk fighting someone trying to win or that their original opponent pulled out late in the day) then it’s just not worth it.

There’s a place for them in British boxing… but it’s filler fights where a journeyman is fighting another journeyman.

Should be a way of ranking fighters officially globally where they can’t be a 50 place difference between fighters.

Can’t be having fighters ranked 50 by Boxrec fighting someone 450.

I hate it. It’s not entertaining and it’s dangerous.

I’ve been to loads of am shows and yet to see one fighter not try. Sometimes it’s clear there’s a big difference in ability but at the start of the fight both guys are trying to win and that usually remains throughout the fight.

At times watching some pro fights where one guy simply doesn’t try to win I stop thinking of it as a sport as one person isn’t trying their best.

I don’t think there’s a place for them anymore. I know that’s probably a controversial opinion and it’ll cause havoc on small hall shows (and FW’s) but if someone’s not trying to win then they shouldn’t be allowed to fight.

I get that it’s a job for them and a stoppage leads to a ban (is it still 28 days?). And some of these guys have fights lined up every weekend so a stoppage loss means they lose income. So it makes sense that they fight negatively at times as their livelihood is literally on the line. Plus the knowledge that if they try and somehow nick a fight the judges are very likely to score a shutout the other way.

A loss in a British ring should get you a month ban no matter how it happens.

I would like fighters with losing records edged out the game. Controversial I know but it’s my feeling.

Maybe I've gone a bit too far with the area title level. However I just feel Dempsey is massively overrated. I've seen as many of his fights as I can - but I'm not impressed. I get that it was a different era, rugged, no one wanting to be seen as a "runner" (prior Ali), however when I look at Dempsey, I just see someone with no boxing ability. Yea he's fit and tough, but that's all I see. If I could have seen how Dempsey would have approached a fight with Johnson, my opinion may differ. Joe Louis wasn't too far afterwards in the grand scheme of things, but he appears to be 100 years ahead of Dempsey scientifically.

Heron graham has been unbelievably overrated with time. How many chances do you want him to have?

I hate fights in the UK like the Gorman and Kelly fights that are 10 rounders or non title fights being 12.

In the US a lot of chief supports are 8 rounds and non title fight main events being 10.

Feel you get more exciting over 8 rounds for undercard fights and if it’s one-sided it won’t go on for too long.

12 fights for any meaningful title fights tho.


Would love to see Gorman/Salak over 8 and Chis/Pulev over 10.

Lomachenko is a cherry picker and overrated as a pro.
