38 is a good time to retire. Whenever he fought anyone decent he lost rounds so that was nothing new. His lack of effort was new. Not sure if he didn't;'t have the wind to throw more hard right hands or if he was too scared of counters by Parker.
He was also rusty. You need to fight more than that. Perhaps if he fought 2 or 3 guys in the top 50 in the last year, the result could have been different. I don't know why these guys are so inactive.
Money.
They get paid so much that they don't need to fight regularly anymore.
Credit to Joseph Parker for getting out 4 times this year.
Even Joshua got out 3 times this year and that's unheard of for top line guys these days.
I suppose they had no other choice as both were trying to rebuild after big losses, because you can bet if they still held trinkets, they'd be out once, or twice a year tops.
Wilder has lost his hunger because he has shown little desire to get back since losing to Fury in the 3rd fight.
I bet he only took the Parker fight because the Saudis waved a massive cheque in his direction.
I think his future lies in crossover type fights because he looks like he can no longer hang with the big boys.

If Wilder comes into a fight at that weight and conditioning, he still has hunger, because that takes a lot of dedication. He was barely puffed after 12 rounds, with him on the move through most of it.

There's honestly so many reasons why I should've seen the Parker-Wilder upset coming that I'm annoyed with myself that I didn't.
Wilder has always had trouble with boxers.
Parker has only been stopped once.
I guess it's who stopped him that gave me pause.

Hell what about Wilder vs Joyce?
Both of those guys are basically being written off as their careers are over, so why not let 'em fight it out to see who's got a future in the sport or not.

Gosh, your very understanding.
If Parker beats Wilder, then Wilder is done-pure and simple. Putting him in with AJ after that is madness, not even the sportswashing saudis would want a bar of that.
Wilder was done after fury 2, AJ was done after Ruiz, fury was done after nganu, Parker was done after Joyce, Joyce was done after Zhang….
Everyone can’t be done when they loose, or you end up with lovejoy like boxrec records.
Right now it’s 50-50… if AJ blasts out wallin, and Parker blasts out wilder it’s still probably a 75-25 fight. Which is more than close enough to warrant given 8 years of build up.
If wilder is conscious he is a chance vs AJ, done or not done.
Sorry Greg, but I stand by the fight not being anything more than one sided.
AJ made an adjustment and boxed for 12 solid rounds with Ruiz barely allowing him to work.
He has better ring IQ than Parker, better height and reach, and has already proved he can be switched on for a 12 round fight.
That bodes very badly for Wilder.
His team have been avoiding Joshua for a very good reason, and so this fight will be a cash out for Wilder if he takes it.
Modern AJs best range is wilders best range too. Parker did well with that way out then duck in looper which is very hard to counter with a wilder bomb…
If AJ wants to 1-2 he is going to be in 1-2 return range.
I would still back aj but Parker’s gamelan wouldn’t suit AJ, so this isn’t a huge change for me.

no aj - parker is not 50- 50 and no i dont want to see it. get something fresh like parker vs zhang/dub/kabayel
aj vs hrg or one of those other guys
aj-wilder was such a dream match for so long, but wilder gave me serious vibes of being done with boxing the other day

Only rematch between any of those guys I'd be interested in is Parker vs Ruiz. It's been a long time since their first fight which was incredibly close and both are one big win away from a title shot.

They can't sell this fight anymore after that dreadful performance against Parker last saturday.
Only chance of this fight happening now is if Deontay can work his way back to the top of the rankings in the next year, but I don't see that happening.
For years promotors / fighters could have made this happen, but now it's too late

On the money.
This fight could and should have happened anytime since 2018, but it was obviously easier not to put it on.

It never happened because Wilder was carefully curated.

Yes, I think you're right.
I bet it's part of the reason why he never fought Ruiz either.
I always wanted to see that fight, as it intruiged me the most.
Saying that, I can't be criticising Wilder for his lack of ambition, when Ruiz has fought even more infrequently than Wilder has.

True. All that AJ money was the worst thing that could happen to Andy and his ambition. In saying that, Andy has got a better resume than Wilder according to boxrec and it's algorithm. And Andy was razor close with Parker in what was a top drawer performance. I seriously doubt Ruiz will be any kind of force in the division. You can carry that fat around when your younger, but it does the body no good later on.

He must've been hurting a lot when it was confirmed that Eddie's empty words were the words of truth.
A bit OTT and selfish to just run off crying like that though and, when you look at it, it was a great night of boxing, something that's sorely lacking these days for the fans.
So, he had his reason, but kinda just confirmed that he was a bit of a dick.

Give us AJ v Parker. Once Parker wins that it may make the Aj v Wilder fight a bit more interesting !
That said I wouldn't be surprised if Wilder is done. He looked terrible, both physically and skill wise. It wasn't a close fight and for a once feared fighter, Parker showed little fear. Taking nothing away from Parker, the fight went how I thought it would, just wider.
AJ looked pretty slick. Plenty of good options with the heavyweights, they just need to be active.

where are all the wilder fanboys who spent years predicting the decapitation of anyone who dared enter the ring with the great one - especially AJ ????
