He isn't ever going to be an elite level fighter, certainly not with such a useless trainer, but he will have a decent career, he may even manage to win a belt with the right opponent.

I respect a lot of the people who post here but taking a loss is not the end, watching fighters rebuild and come back is what makes the sport exciting for me.

Don't you think his lack of fundamentals were exposed. He eats jabs like a fat kid eats chocolate.

With a Snickers chin — he's no KitKat man, although he might lose that if he keeps getting caught so much.

And I like Buatsi and rate his boxing, but I think he just lacks enough pop to hang at the sharp end. That fight still makes sense for both.

Those qualities can normally take you a long way ! But the LH division is pretty stacked at the top !

He definitely got a beating over the last 3 rounds. Was getting hit loads, had his eye quickly fatten up, and clearly was worn down enough to be KO'd by a jab. He could've easily been pulled out the round before the end.

Before those last 3 , it wasn't a beating, just mostly him getting outboxed.

Also, it seems to me Kov is more of an arm puncher these days and not putting the same body into his shots. Could be a strategy to help perserve himself over the duration. He never really loaded up, but was defo not pitter pattering as much a few years ago.

Yarde will come again there is no doubt, but I do think people are being a little disingenuous when it comes down to how he comes back from this. There will be a lot of mental hurdles for Yarde to jump. His aura has been dispelled.

There are a lot of fundamental flaws with Yarde, low left hand, lack of a decent jab. His speed is not great, he was out sped by a 36 year old who's had a lot of bruising fights himself and his engine was found lacking.

It's comical to suggest he gave away all those rounds to have one good round (doing a good deontay wilder impression) and then get knocked out from a jab 3 rounds later from total exhaustion. Who on earth thought Yarde could walk down someone like Kovalev needs their head examining. The team must have been completely hoping on Kovalev being worn out.

Yarde is heavy handed, and he can be in some excellent fights, but he's not difficult to hit and consequently any world class fighter is not going to find him hard to hit. He's always going to be in hard fights at the higher level.

Warren seems well connected to ESPN/Arum, who have loads of good LHWs. Could see Yarde being used again for some of them. Problem then is that he runs the risk of becoming a high level 'opponent' when he should've gotten more development at the level below.

Couldn’t agree more with the 0 protection. It’s totally boring and overrated.

TBH, I don't think overall that the reaction has been that negative, and I say that as someone who has slammed people's reaction to losses and as a Yardey who would be quick to post if it had been over the top. Id say the consensus was that he is strong and was game, had some moments, but was defo lacking in his approach and certain areas. People are right to consider his previous experience and also the fact the division currently is quite strong and might be hard to make a dent at top level.

Saying he got a beating isn't really being too harsh, he certainly copped a lot over the last 3 and it was a grueling fight for him in the end, hence being put down and out on his back by a jab.

Yarde v Callum Johnson would be a good matchup.

Noticed that, too. Dunno if it's age & nagging injuries catching up (Golovkin, for instance, seemingly can't throw a right hand with any force behind it any longer unless he totally squares up & kind of swings up & around) or whether, after the first Alvarez fight, Buddy hits him with a plank in camp any time he sits down on a shot...

Though, to be fair, Kov's always been a sharp, rather than Julian Jackson type puncher, it's just that he used to rattle you with everything he threw... Like, um, not heavy-handed per se but with that sort of effortless snap on it? He's got a bit of that left, but either he deliberately doesn't put much on anything any longer or the power's not what it was.
