Mckenzie is the main man now
all bets are off
Personally, I doubt Bellew-McKenzie will happen. McKenzie, on closer inspection, looks a bit too seasoned for the big-hitting if untested Bellew. Kudos to Bellew if it does.funso banjo baby wrote:nice one Bennie
a while back a mckenzie would have been a good learning fight for someone like bellew.... now its more dangerous but would be good.
check out my theoretical next LT heavy prizefighter:
Ovil Mckenzie
Carl Dilks
Tony Oakey
Matthew Barney
Danny Mcintosh
Danny Tombs
Travis dickinson

oakey and mckenzie looking to make history. Dilks looking for retribution. Barney needs redemption. Mcintosh nice propsect/ and some unknowns and unbeatens....
very tasty
I totally agree.bennie wrote:Personally, I doubt Bellew-McKenzie will happen. McKenzie, on closer inspection, looks a bit too seasoned for the big-hitting if untested Bellew. Kudos to Bellew if it does.funso banjo baby wrote:nice one Bennie

You know your boxing, Carlos, so I appreciate the echo. Tony is obviously a likeable fellow and one of the best prospects in Britain but don't chuck him in with a bogeyman like McKenzie yet.Carlos-Wigan wrote:I totally agree.bennie wrote:Personally, I doubt Bellew-McKenzie will happen. Thank you Bennie - and I can repay the same compliment to you.bennie wrote:You know your boxing, Carlos, so I appreciate the echo. McKenzie has already beaten a former amateur star from Liverpool with an unbeaten record (at the time) - one Courtney Fry.
You are absolutley right! Thats my point! For some reason - we don't bring over decent yank journeymen anymore - one day Tony Bellew might be fighting for the WBC title and as you have just pointed out - he won't be facing some Latvian or Kenyan with an disputed record - more than likely he will be facing an American fighter.jBacca wrote:Bomber needs tests, but who else could he fight?
Oakey and McIntosh square off soon so have to count them out. Fry didn't want the fight. Many others don't want the fight.
It means getting over some African, which will only bring criticism.
If Tony is to go far, he should be beating the likes of McKenzie. He wants the fight, supposedly does Ovil.. make it happen Maloney!
Mickey, I think you mean Henry Walker. Yes, he gave Kaylor 10 'learning' rounds, the kind of 'rounds' sorely lacking for Errol Christie.mickey1975 wrote:I remember Mickey Duff bringing over Nicky Walker to box Henry Wharton in York just after Henry won the Commonwealth Title.A great learning 10 rounds against a very tough opponent. Also, the crowd went home happy, and was the start of some great nights in York.
I dont,i mean Nicky Walker,i met the bloke,he fought for a world titlebennie wrote:Mickey, I think you mean Henry Walker. Sorry, Mickey, I'm getting Wharton confused with Kaylor. Again, my apologies.mickey1975 wrote:I dont,i mean Nicky Walker,i met the bloke,he fought for a world titlebennie wrote:Mickey, I think you mean Henry Walker. I'm think am speaking out of disappointment at the potential of some second-rate fighter being brought to fight last minute on the Liverpool card, when it looked like McKenzie v Bomber was all set.Carlos-Wigan wrote:You are absolutley right! Tony is at a stage where none of the other British contenders want to fight him - I don't blame Frank Maloney in not wanting Ovil McKenzie to fight Tony because Ovil has earnt his shot at the gold - so why take the step backwards to fight Bellew? So while he is waiting for Oakey and McKenzie to sort out their differneces for the title (something that they have earned) and McIntosh, Barney and the rest - FW could bring over a guy like this:

With a very weak dollar, it would be value for money - also - they will put up a scrap - and sometimes (if you remember Buck Smith vs Kirkland Laing) they win!

The local lads are hoping 2010 is a big year for Tony, all starting with a title fight against good opposition.
If they can get someone in (like you and Bennie have mentioned), then i'll be happy, but there's always the last-minute jibes that could pop up if Tony wins.
