I did lose my respect for Frazier over the years with some of the vicious and vulgar things he said about Ali like wanting him to fall into the fire when he was lighting the Olympic flame or mocking him about his Parkinsons but that's all set aside when you read something like this and hopefully Joe will pull through as he's a born fighter.

I think a lot of those comments were brought on by Ali's shitty treatment of Frazier...but as you said, this trancends all that bollocks....all thoughts to Joe and family.

This is teribble news! Cancer is a fornicating beast. Took my mum and is currently taking my father. I feel for Frazier and his family. I am not a religious person but I'll be saying a prayer for the great man tonight.

Always thought that my heroes would last forever.

Saw a documentary about Joe frazier recently, was very sad, he looked old, frail, was very bitter, virtually broke, and living almost forgotten above his derelict gym.

Whilst Ali was lionised, Frazier was largely left in his wake and that is quite sad considering what he achieved.

During Ali's exile Frazier supported him, even gave him money. Ali repaid him with degrading insults that hurt Joe for years. Frazier was a great fighter and great man. No bullshit with him. C'mon Joe, one last rally!

No that's not quite true and the re-writing of history lately has been appalling but again this is not the time and hopefully Frazier pulls through.

Sadly, his manager has confirmed the news on the BBC. Joe is in a Hospice.

Hoping for a miracle, keep fighting Smokin Joe.

Ya know, it is not Ali's fault that Joe has such a low intelligence level and did not understand how to play the game which made their rivalry one of the biggest of all time and probably doubled what each earned in the fights. The insults cranked up the appeal of the fight and Joe should have let them bounce off and seen the game Ali was playing. It was tactics to increase the appeal of the fight and also a tactic to get under his skin and get an advantage.

However, Joe always seems a great chap and a legend of the sport, having a low level of intelligence is not surprising given his background and is no crime at all and takes nothing away from what a great champion he was.

Very upsetting news for him, his friends and family

All those insults that Ali threw at Frazier help promote their purses and made Joe a lot of money. Although I do think Ali did step over the line some of the time.

Joe is actually an intelligent man, and has very high peronal standards and morals. Joe is not the most articulate, and you are confusing this with intelligence.

When the man is fighting for his life in a hospice, your post is really quite disgraceful.

If toddays fighters carried themselves like Frazier did Boxing would be all the better for it. Unfortunatley, a lot of them over hype themselves and talk absolute trash, which is a legacy that Frazier will never leave.

I agree, a tremendous champion and apparently one heck of a guy. My prayers are with him and his family. I am just remarking on someone else's comment about how Ali treated him.

But yeah, not the time to say it. I hope Joe has adequate pain relief and if this is the end, it is not protracted. Go quietly and with dignity is what the man deserves.
