Ward/Nunn at super middle.
Ward/Nunn at super middle.
I'd take Ward; Nunn was a little off his middle best. Around 8-4.

Re: Ward/Nunn at super middle.
Ward. Nunn could look really good at times (re: Kalamby, Frank Tate, Roldan, most of the Toney fight) but he could also go to sleep in fights. Ward outpoints him probably 8-4 or 7-4-1
Re: Ward/Nunn at super middle.
I'm basing my pick off of what Nunn did at 68.BarryWashington wrote:id take nunn by close decision
im doing the hypothetical that nunn is still at his peak and decides to go and fight ward at 68
nunn was a huge MW

Damn, we even agree on the margin of victory.giacomino wrote:Ward. Nunn could look really good at times (re: Kalamby, Frank Tate, Roldan, most of the Toney fight) but he could also go to sleep in fights. Ward outpoints him probably 8-4 or 7-4-1
Re: Ward/Nunn at super middle.
Ward would be up for this he had already thrown his career away from a box office point of view when he lost to lesser men like Little and Liles.
The late 80s Nunn was a far far more talented fighter and on his best day he would win. Any man who could outbox a peak Toney like that for 8-9 rounds....man

Re: Ward/Nunn at super middle.
Certainly agree at middleweight. He was spectacular at times. At super middle, I don't remember seeing him in a fight where he had the same spark. He was certainly good enough to beat most at 168, but, IMO, he wasn't nearly as dominant as he was before the Toney KOmugabi wrote:Ward would be up for this he had already thrown his career away from a box office point of view when he lost to lesser men like Little and Liles.

Some guys can't transfer their talents to different divisions.BarryWashington wrote:hypothetically nunn could still be in MW form and just bounce up to smw
its obvious after the toney loss his confidence wasnt the same
Re: Ward/Nunn at super middle.
I think more or less by the time he was at SM nunn was a lost cause. He had blown his shot at superstardom which he had threatened to grab during the summer of 89 with the perception that he had won a lucklustre victories over Barkley and Starling. I personally thought these were good wins but then he got the new york boxing media cabal on his back running him down. He broke up with Surkein and his management and they crucified him in the press and amongst some of the power brokers. His attitude was bad at this time and when Hearns, SRL and Duran no longer became viable the moment was gone.
The fact he fought so safety first during this time after the impressive run of stopping Tate, Kalambay and Roldan was a shame. Certainly he had the tools to stop Barkley.

Really though, that didn't happen imho. I know that's what it said on the commentary but if you watch it to me it looks rather more like a gradual dismantling. Angelo Dundee apparently agreed with me.mugabi wrote:Ward would be up for this he had already thrown his career away from a box office point of view when he lost to lesser men like Little and Liles.

Yeah, Nunn won the first 7; then Toney took over.mrbassie wrote:Really though, that didn't happen imho.
