Is boxing spoiled by fans?

I went to the Groves-Froch fight last weekend, my first big boxing event. Really enjoyed the contest but was dismayed at the number of people in the crowd spoiling for a fight. So many drunk people acting agressively has put me off going to another professional event. I've been to several amateur events and find the atmosphere much better.

Does the behaviour of boxing crowds put other people off? I train at a local boxing gym; for me boxing is about mutual respect, two people engaged in a tough sport recognising the hard work and dedication they both put in. It's not about drinking a gallon of beer and abusing people.

Getting drunk in the bar and the odd scrap here and there happens in every walk of life - I have been to amateur shows and white collar events where exactly the same has happened.

much the same as the Darts mate , these big Events are treated as piss ups and thats why they sell so well.

as thats what the majority of people going want to do ,

and of course once drinks involved then a minority of folk seem to think there fighters and it can escalate

The only thing is when people keep asking you when the main event is got it a lot at the Cleverly bill whilst Buckland v Smith and Enzo v Ovill was on.

Ive been to an amateur show and evetyone in the venue was fighting.at pro shows the security is alot stronger.where ever alcohol is sold ur gunna get the odd bit of trouble in every sporting event.so dont let it put u off.

Maybe it's British sports fans in general, yobbos abusing people, you see it at the football, boxing, rugby, I've even seen it at the British MotoGP round at Donny.

Boxing is bad because of the nature of the sport it winds morons up to want to fight even though they can't eevn do that well. - alcohol doesn't help but as said other things have alcohol and less violence.

My worst experience of trouble was in Cardiff when I went to my one and only RU International Wales v England.

It's usually a lot better at the small hall shows, a lot more real boxing fans usually unless there's a particular rivalry in the offing. Every single arena show I've been to there have been several scraps. Just what happens when you get people who don't care about boxing at boxing shows. I mean seriously, they've paid £100 to watch Froch vs Groves and then they have a scrap during one of the most anticipated fights of the year, just proves to me that they don't give a shit about boxing in the first place.

I disagree to an extent. A lot of the people at Froch-Groves are probably not even hardcore boxing fans! They just get caught up in the hype of the event and decide to go.

Big stadium/arena fights aren't filled with boxing fans more like football fans who like the whole gang thing of surporting one team /fighter .i've only ever been to one big show benn vs eubanks 2 and i'd rather watch a southern area title fight at york hall than be miles away from the action at a big stadium bill .
many of the people there would of never been to a show before and the shock stoppage would of wound many up.

to be fair you get some crap there as well . the one i'm gutted i missed and i could of got tickets as a mate was topping the bill was when johnny tapia boxed there about 10 years ago .the atmosphere seemed amazing
