That's my vote...Hell of a fight...It would be a war but unlike the Hagler-Hearns war this was goes the distance.
Re: Jake LaMotta Versus Marvin Hagler
What if the best Lamotta shows up as Duran's replacement at that point in time?
Everyone is calling this for Marvin.....I just needed to drop some doubt in here.
Or is this placing Marvin at a disadvantage time wise?

Hagler was a master counter-puncher, someone like LaMotta pressing the fight was much more suitable to him than Duran making him lead and drilling him with those right hands. Marvin was just too skilled for Jake.

Both at their very best, I pick Hagler by UD15 in a tough fight that resembles Hagler vs Hamsho although closer.

The great Marvelous wins this one over the great Raging Bull by decision. I just cannot see a win for LaMotta here.

Well, if anything, it will go the distance.

Would also have to go with Hagler by decision. However, it may be closer than many think. It would be pretty intense. Many of the rounds would be fairly close, but Hagler's superior defense would win him most of the rounds. Hagler would probably give away about three rounds, but would still win something like 9-6.

I agree with the prediction and the take on the styles, but surely no one is just too skilled for a guy who beat SRR? Or do you think Marvin was more skilled than SRR?SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Hagler was a master counter-puncher, someone like LaMotta pressing the fight was much more suitable to him than Duran making him lead and drilling him with those right hands. Re: Jake LaMotta Versus Marvin Hagler
Both superb fighters...real all time greats. Based on what I have seen of Lamotta in the 1940's I would slightly lean toward him to outwork Hagler over the distance. . He doesn't knockout Hagler, Hagler doesn't knock him out. So it's points. . Lamotta in his prime had a terriffic punch rate and I think this could be problem for Hagler. Probably a pick 'em but for me Lamotta points...
Re: Jake LaMotta Versus Marvin Hagler
Hagler's long right hand jab would be a potent weapon.
I can see that and the righty-lefty extra distance causing problems for Jake. But then I can envisage the physically strong LaMotta having the upperhand up close and throwing a lot of punches in there.
A very close fight with the edge to Jake.

Hagler, and I don't think it's all that close. As has been mentioned, LaMotta's style is well suited to him.

Robinson was more skilled, but he only weighed 145 when LaMotta bet him; he was still a welterweight. LaMotta had about a large weight advantage in their first 5 fights; and Robinson still won 4, though they were all competitive.Cherrybomb wrote:I agree with the prediction and the take on the styles, but surely no one is just too skilled for a guy who beat SRR? In their 6th fight, Robinson had added some weight and stopped LaMotta.
Hagler was not as skilled as Robinson but he was more skilled than LaMotta and would have been the same size. LaMotta was tenacious and would have made it competitive but Hagler probably would have won.

He wouldn't have the size advantage on Marvin, though he was a bit bigger. I wouldn't say Robinson was more skilled than Hagler.Cherrybomb wrote:I agree with the prediction and the take on the styles, but surely no one is just too skilled for a guy who beat SRR? I'm not sure if Hagler was as talented but Hagler damn sure was skilled. He could pretty much do it all and those who only sift through his fights like to peg him as a brawler type. He had considerable boxing skill which even had Leonard nervous to fight him.
