Jeff Powell is reporting that a 'revenue split' in addition to money up front has secured Sky the rights to the event.

How many PPV buys do we think Sky will achieve? There is a lot of hype for this fight now which will only increase as the event draws closer. Still, i cant get away from the fact many non boxing fans in the UK dont know who Mayweather or Pacquiao are or are only just learning something about them now.

Will this event break the UK record for PPV buys? It is probably going to be priced at an all time high, possibly around £25. Will that turn subscribers away or will it help to flame the fire and highten peoples desire to see this fight?

For the money they were looking for I don't think he'll be gutted at all. Far too expensive a fight for niche channel to buy. It's like Motors TV bidding for an F1 race.

Yeah, its one thing to pay a one-off PPV fee, but another thing if you have to first subscribe to a channel.

I am still not sure how much this fight will appeal to the average sports fan, being on in the early hours of the morning won't help, and the more obstacles in the way will also affect sales.

For me (and I assume most casuals) after doing a quick Google search and reading about problems of minimum number of months sign up, problems in cancelling direct debits etc. I just wouldn't be bothered.

It was only ever going to be Sky in my opinion. Not having sky means I won't get it rammed down my throat every 2 minutes but it will be interesting to see how it pans out. However, having said that, Sky obviously do their research and wouldn't be entertaining this unless they were certain it will profit them. Once again, as we know, the general public will fall for the hype despite not knowing who either boxer is. Fight of the millenium will sell itself.

It would have been interesting to see what impact it would have really made to allegedly to get this fight. It's not the end of the world for them as I'm sure if they can get Fury v Wlad in the summer of Autumn that will do as well for them as Haye Chisora did especially if Fury really goes for it in the build up.

Hatton v Mayweather doing 1.2 million buys is very impressive indeed, thats 11% of all subscribers buying the event (11 million UK homes have Sky).

Will 11 homes out of 100 buy Mayweather vs Pacquiao? I cant see it, its two non Brits fighting at 5 am in the morning and by all accounts its going to be priced at a premium.

Me either, this is really still one for hardcore boxing, and hardcore sports fans - a lot of people will be interested in the result, but not prepared to pay or wait until 5.00 a.m to watch it.

I think this will do well to hit 1 million buys. Hatton was a PPV machine - he had an incredible mainstream following for a modern british fighter, one of boxing's few crossover stars of recent years.

They wouldn't be the first to miscacluate - however, they have deep pockets, and can afford to not make money on this.

As big as this fight is in boxing terms, it's not a guaranteed smash at the box office in the UK, by any stretch.

Its a very cynical and stale fight at this point in their respective careers.

I think it's been overvalued myself, and would bet on it not being the roaring success in the UK that people think it will be, for 2 non-Brits fighting at 4.30am GMT.

I forecast a lot will go hunting for an American version on the Sunday AM to watch whilst eating their bacon & eggs.

Hell I'm tired at 10pm on Saturday's now, let alone the thought of shelling out £25+ for Watt & Halling at 4am.

Although the thought of finally seeing that first bell go and them both being in the ring together at long long last will likely get the better of me on the night. But right now I'm not assed.

i watch all boxing nation on my laptop link to my computer, just because its pain, boxing nation you have to ring up and get it on one box. i have sky, if drinking i will stay up and watch fights, if not sky plus. i would pay£20 for pac man no more . HBO build up is fantastic which is free on you tube, if they take the Michael and charge £50 then there on par with wwe
