Fighters that are/were low risk - high reward?
It's an odd question, most of the time fighters are high risk-low reward. But are there instances where fighters are low risk - high reward even in terms of media popularity too.
Haye beating Harrison was one instance of low risk - high reward in terms of popularity in the media (not rankings or acheivements lol) , Audley was known to the british public and the fight was sold a a domestic showdown, Haye was always going to win that fight.
Any others come to mind?

Ronal Wright for Qullin?
I'm thinking along the lines of fellas that used to be good before becoming ancient.
Maybe it was the way it was done, but Green demolishing RJJr helped him get his name out.

Low risk for high reward? Let's see...
Immediately what comes to my mind is Juergen Braehmer for the Light Heavies - Stevenson or Kovalev. It would be attaining a credible name on their resume along with the WBA Regular World title at that weight class. Braehmer isn't the fighter that some people think he is.
Dereck Chisora for Anthony Joshua. Chisora is a former World Heavyweight title challenger & former European Heavyweight Champion. He's practically a spent-force at the top level nowadays and he'd make for easy picking for AJ. And further proof that he is rapidly surpassing British level fighters.
That's all for now.

Sturm has always been lower risk/higher reward for best middleweights which is why he avoided them. Current faded SMW Sturm is still high reward and very low risk for top SMWs, and Fedor Chudinov is collecting that premium.

Yep agree, Braehmer is not someone the Boxing fans should be applauding. The definition of milking a world title. Sauerlands have played their part in that too.Crease wrote:Low risk for high reward? Let's see...

Brandon Rios is becoming a high reward fighter, he is very basic and a solid name to have on a resume. Many WW should beat him on movement alone!
Re: Fighters that are/were low risk - high reward?
Vic Darchinyan: Up until now, he was the come up for the up and comers
Jorge Arce: Same with Darchinyan
Berto: The come up to a Floyd fight for anyone including himself
Malignaggi - Question is how good you can do against him
Chavez above 168 - His greatest asset (weight advantage) is minimized.
Mayorga - People thought he was so dangerous simply based off his Forrest victories. Truth his, he never even remotely hurt any top opponent.

Fighting Roberto Duran in the last few years of his career. Duran still had his name which was just about all.
Re: Fighters that are/were low risk - high reward?
Adrien Broner
Ricardo Mayorga definitely milked his two wins over Forrest for all they were worth, and so did potential opponents of his
I can't figure Antonio Tarver or Steve Cunningham would be all that likely to beat any Top 10 or Top 5 guys at Heavyweight, but they're known enough that it'd probably be a decent payday.

I'd say Provodnikov is low risk high reward now since he stopped moving his head and walking in straight lines. Target practise.
Shannon Briggs is one that springs to mind. Good cash cow for Wilder.
Fighting Anthony Mundine in Australia is a fight that makes money against limited opposition.

Amir Khan for Brook, massive money and there's no chance Khan wont get knocked clean out.

Khan is an extremely tough fight if you are a boxer with no accuracy or power like Alexander.
Re: Fighters that are/were low risk - high reward?
Which is why I only mentioned Brook. The money in that fight is huge and Kell has great timing and very good punching power, which is why Khan hasn't faced him or any other big hitter in the division, he knows Kell will knock him out.IKSRTFO wrote:digzee wrote:Amir Khan for Brook, massive money and there's no chance Khan wont get knocked clean out.

Disagree with the De la Hoya fight, it was a SD! Pretty risky imo!Counter-puncher wrote:Alvarez and de la Hoya for Floyd.

Arturo Gatti
Re: Fighters that are/were low risk - high reward?
Gabriel Rosado is definitely someone that I would put in this category. He has a pretty nice following for a guy with so many losses. His fights are usually entertaining and you can bet on some blood as he probably bleeds rubbing his eyes in the morning. But he's like Special Delivery Jones back in the WWF days. He always gave the other star wrestlers a good match but would always get pinned in the end.
