Thruman vs Garcia Zzzzzzzzz
Ok, thruman won, but I don't think anyone's stock really went up. Its was a snoozer on free tv and I doubt anyone is going to be clamoring for either of these 2 vs pacaman. For all the frenzy, Thurman could never really assert himself and Danny should have abandoned the counter punch game after the 4th round because it was ineffective. To much respect from both of these guys. Whatever happened to the methodical no fear style Julio Cesar Chavez and Felix Trinidad. These two would hardly crack the top ten 20 years ago.

It looked like an in house choreograph with the intent to Maintain both fighters Marquee value - in other words it looked like a sparring session

It was a solid top level match. I has been rooting for Thurman, because his opponent had some gift decisions in the past, and his father/trainer is literally idiot. Personally, I think Thurman won 115-113.

Yeah, most of the fighting was done at press conferences and most of the big blows were landed by Angel Garcia.

It wasn't overly dramatic, but a solid enough fight with the correct winner.

You missed the comedy of Leonard encouraging Thurman to run late with the lead.Blodhemn wrote:Didn't bother watching. Can't stand the styles nor personalities of either.

that realy happened? sugar realy did this
Re: Thruman vs Garcia Zzzzzzzzz
Ha. Sounds exactly like what he'd say. Thurman lost me as a fan when he started the running bullshit all the while acting like he's about KO's. Terrible transparent promotional personality. His herky, jerky run style won't last much longer.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:You missed the comedy of Leonard encouraging Thurman to run late with the lead.Blodhemn wrote:Didn't bother watching. I thought it was a decent enough performance. I got a little irritated with Thurman in the last couple rounds. But, it's not as if he has made a career out of this type of fighting. Overall, I like Thurman, his style, and choice of opponents. He's good for the sport.

that realy happened? sugar realy did thisit was a close fight, it didnt work for oscar, i think sugars advice couldve backfired prety bad
Re: Thruman vs Garcia Zzzzzzzzz
Oscar was running against Trinidad.. Thurman was moving too much, but attacking in spurts. That's the only time he was effective, and it gave a disjointed look to the fight. Thurman was instructed to "box smart" by Birmingham because Dan thought he was well ahead.. That was terrible advice. On a par with Gil Clancy telling Oscar he had the Trinidad fight won and to stick and move.. Oscar was winning the fight the first 9 rounds so why change???SaadOffTheDeck wrote:You missed the comedy of Leonard encouraging Thurman to run late with the lead.Blodhemn wrote:Didn't bother watching. An aggressive fight was working extremely well for Thurman in the early rounds... If plan A is working well you stick with it all the way... If you want to get screwed by biased judges - start coasting in the late rounds.. It gives the fight a different look that's often interpreted as a change in momentum...
In contrast the Thurman-Porter fight was fought like a house on fire for 12 freakin' rounds -- because it was close all the way and needed to be.

I thought it was a decent enough fight.
It wasn't a brawl, of course....but there was quality action with hard punches being thrown by top technicians.
I thought it was close and the decision was about right. Good night of boxing for me.

funny how every fighter that refuses to let his hands go or assert himself is nowdays called a "technician." Yes they are not amateurs but these guys are not exactly Juan Manuel Marquez

I think they are in the same realm. They are both technicians. You don't accomplish what these two have without having a high level of proficiency.Luckybattles wrote:funny how every fighter that refuses to let his hands go or assert himself is nowdays called a "technician." Re: Thruman vs Garcia Zzzzzzzzz
Exactly. No damage done. Didn't look anything like the classic Leonard-Hearns reunification fight they desperately were trying to compare it to. Two blocky guys who couldn't or wouldn't break through each others guard.montrealsuper wrote:It looked like an in house choreograph with the intent to Maintain both fighters Marquee value - in other words it looked like a sparring session
Totally devoid of suspense, action, or heart.

Although I wouldn't say either have bad technique, they are hardly technicians. Against top opposition, Thurman looks like one of those scrappy herky jerky fighters who hasn't learned to cut the ring off and relies heavily on wild right hands and wide hooks. Danny looks pretty solid technically but unable make any form of adjustment and didn't know how to mount any kind of attack. Most champs are better technically than Thruman and many are better than Danny.
Re: Thruman vs Garcia Zzzzzzzzz
Total nonsense.. Both fighters move their heads very well and are much harder to nail with a clean punch on the chin than Hearns or Leonard... Hearns looked skinny, weak, and undernourished vs Leonard - like he was about to be blown away like dandelion fluff... Both were easy to hit and took a zillion punches... Leonard got way behind because he wasn’t doing anything in the middle rounds but getting punched in the face - “You’re blowing it son.” But Hears ran out of gas because he was too skinny and weak.Dart340 wrote:Exactly. Mayweather is supposed to be the best boxer ever – but Thurman outboxed Guerrero by a 14-point wider aggregate margin on the scorecards than Floyd beat him. Plus he had RG down for a 9-count.. Thurman caught Garcia with a few big shots in the first 2 rounds.. He let Danny know he wasn’t playing.. The dumbest move for Keith was to boxing and moving in the late rounds. He should have kept attacking and kept the pressure on the whole way.

Re: Thruman vs Garcia Zzzzzzzzz
So you are saying that these guys are par or better than SRL and Hearns? And using Robert Guererro as some kind of measuring tool. I saw Guerroro live a couple fights before that in los angeles against some unknown Asian fighter. Even before Thurman, Guererro was getting hit with absolutely everything. You couldn't miss the guy. Getting hit flush on the chin with everything. He was beyond shot when Thruman fought him.
Like many fighters of this era, these guys just don't want to get hit and just follow the same bs routine every round while hoping to catch the other one with a haymaker. Pathetic display. Made Santa Cruz vs Frampton look like FOTY. These guys blew their loads at the press conferences.

I liked the fight. 7-5 Thurman. I loath Thurman, can't stand him. Errol Spence would be the shit out of him.
