My top 6

1. Bob Fitzsimmons
2. Sam Langford
3. Sugar Ray Robinson
4. Harry Greb
5. Henry Armstrong
6. Ezzard Charles

I made it 6, because to me these are the clear top 6

Edit: Though I have very little between Langford and Fitz, and any of the rest could quite easilly be swapped around. I don't think Charles really deserves to below the others.

That's really a tough to make list with all rich history of boxing, where there have been enough remarkable athletes. I'd rate the top 5 like that:

1. Roberto Duran
2. Bob Fitzsimmons
3. Henry Armstrong
4. Gene Tunney
5. Harry Greb

Y'all got it backwards ... forget about all that "back-in-the-day" bullshit ...

... start from NOW and work back ... today's fighters are far superior than any of them old-time hacks ...

... (especially Ruby Robert ... what a joke) ...

GGG. You said today's fighters are far superior than any of them old-time hacks. So are you saying GGG is the best ever?

Based on ability or achievement?

I suppose it's subjective as to what you believe encompasses the term p4p. For some it's how many weight divisions a boxer can conquer, for others it's the opposition a fighter may have faced, and for others it could be purely based entirely on the eye test. So it's all personal preference really, I suppose there isn't a decisive right or wrong answer.

Yes, he is. But that's the last argument I used to place him there.

You think a guy that quit against Leonard deserves to be at the top of a 5 that doesn't include Walker Smith Jnr?

You're telling, as if it was somebody else, who had defeated prime and then undefeated Leonard a fight before. And I can also talk about Robinson's lowlights, should I?

You can talk about anything you want. Only Duran fans have him at #1, of which you are one. :OhYes:

By your logic I'm putting Duran at #1, cause I'm his fan, but suddenly I have quite a bunch of boxers, who are favoured more, than him, but somehow they're lower, so your logic seems to be not so valid.

When I did a top 30 a while ago I think my top 5 were:

Langford
Greb
Charles
Robinson
Duran

Armstrong a little unlucky to just miss out.

As I wrote in the BoxRec Forum Boxing Hall of Fame thread ... any all time greatest boxing list that does not include El Grand Campeon has no credibility whatsoever ...

My personal list of the top 5 pound per pound boxers.

1. Henry Armstrong
2. Sugar Ray Robinson
3. Sam Langford
4. Roberto Duran
5. Willie Pep

The rest of the top ten:
6. Harry Greb
7. Floyd Mayweather Jr
8. Ezzard Charles
9. Muhammad Ali
10. Joe Louis

Of course is subjective, but with the most objective view possible. I ranked them by accomplishments, quality of opposition, division dominance, longevity and historical impact in the sport of boxing. Like someone in this thread said, "No list is accurate".
