Id like to see him go for Kabayel's euro title next
Re: Filip Hrgović next ....Champ
Nice shout!
Re: Filip Hrgović next ....Champ
It's difficult to predict his path to the championship. It has always been like this way: if you lose last fight, you're a bum, if you win it, you're a contender. Who thought much of Helenius after Whyte loss? Now he is back on track with KOing Teper. Chisora was nearly written off after Kabayel loss, but he KOed Takam recently and became rated higher. Hrgovic won't be exactly next champ, cause it's too much time for him to step up for that. Fury and Usyk, for example, are closer to the shots and even considered to have some real chances of winning it.
Re: Filip Hrgović next ....Champ
Hrgovic is promising but untested. He has good skills, but we haven't seen him under fire, like Joshua v. Wlad or Wilder v. Ortiz. I'm not saying the latter fights were huge defining moments, but we learned a lot about those fighters from those bouts. Took them to the next level in the eyes of the boxing world, so to speak.DrDuke wrote: ↑14 Dec 2018, 14:00 It's difficult to predict his path to the championship. Yeah. And he also hasn't yet faced an opponent, who would have been comparable to him in skills, but not a past-prime one.oogiebe wrote: ↑14 Dec 2018, 14:03Hrgovic is promising but untested. LOL! I knew someone would go there. Regardless of Wlad and Ortiz' ages or past their primes, they both brought out the something we hadn't seen from AJ and Wilder, which is to my point.DrDuke wrote: ↑14 Dec 2018, 14:05Yeah. I'm not blaming him though. He's a prospect, everything goes the logical way. However, Wilder's and Joshua's resumes include prime or near-prime opponents too.oogiebe wrote: ↑14 Dec 2018, 14:08LOL! Re: Filip Hrgović next ....Champ
Agreed, but those two fights made both fighters have to dig deeper than ever before and took each to the brink, IMHO. A place where neither had been before. AJ came back from a KD and was in very bad trouble, and Wilder was obviously on the brink of being stopped when he came to smash Ortiz. Doesn't matter how old or past their primes their opponents were, fact is, they got tested a never tested previously. Hrgovic will step up in his next fight I'm certain. We know so very little about him so far, so I agree with you that he's never even faced a fighter closely skilled as he may be.DrDuke wrote: ↑14 Dec 2018, 14:13I'm not blaming him though. Re: Filip Hrgović next ....Champ
The prospect I really love is Efe Ajagba. I think this kid (age 24 with pretty solid amateur career) is the best of the young prospects. He has size; (at 6'5", 235LBS looks like he's 210 so he will get larger as he matures)speed; terrific power; and outstanding fundamentals. He too hasn't come close to being tested, but he looks terrific! I hope we see him take the next step in 2019.oogiebe wrote: ↑14 Dec 2018, 14:17Agreed, but those two fights made both fighters have to dig deeper than ever before and took each to the brink, IMHO. Think its the perfect step-up for Hrgovic, was surprised noone else mentioned it.
Good fight and nice EBU belt...
I see Christian Hammer is fighting for a WBO euro belt in Germany tomorrow night, winner of that vs Hrgovic would be good too.
Lots of good europeans around that level, if Hrgovic is a big draw in croatia (43% of tv viewers was it?

Hrgovic and Joe Joyce are fighting tougher opposition as pros but I really like Ajagba too, especially as far as raw potential goes. His great physical condition is a plus and one physical advantage he has over other HWs is his phenomenal reach > 88"!!oogiebe wrote: ↑14 Dec 2018, 14:24The prospect I really love is Efe Ajagba. Here's how his reach compares with other top HWs & HW prospects:
Ajagba 88"
Fury 85"
Wilder 83"
Joshua 82"
Tony Yoka 82"
Wlad K 81"
Joe Joyce 80"
Hrgovic, Dychko, Dubois ALL UNKNOWN
Even the freakish, 7'0" Nikolai Valuev had a reach of only 85".
Re: Filip Hrgović next ....Champ
i almost wondered if that was an error, 88 is freakish unless the guy is like 7 feet tall

Re: Filip Hrgović next ....Champ
in fact his reach probably is 83''-85'' not 88'' just like Fury isn't 206cm but ~202cm. those measurements are often incorrect, for example according to BoxRec Sulęcki's reach is 68'' while Centeno's is 75 1/2'', Jacobs' 73'', no way.
Re: Filip Hrgović next ....Champ
I've seen his 88" reach mentioned on a lot of websites/boxing sites and articles using terms like "Freakish reach" to describe how Efe uses it to set up his punches. So...maybe?dagilechia wrote: ↑15 Dec 2018, 05:49 in fact his reach probably is 83''-85'' not 88'' just like Fury isn't 206cm but ~202cm. those measurements are often incorrect, for example according to BoxRec Sulęcki's reach is 68'' while Centeno's is 75 1/2'', Jacobs' 73'', no way.

Who knows. When he steps up and fights a fringe contender, we'll get a proper tale of the tape I imagine.dagilechia wrote: ↑15 Dec 2018, 16:39i guess those sites mentioned it just because they have seen it on boxrecoogiebe wrote: ↑15 Dec 2018, 16:03I've seen his 88" reach mentioned on a lot of websites/boxing sites and articles using terms like "Freakish reach" to describe how Efe uses it to set up his punches.
