Heavyweights: Evander Holyfield vs. Joe Louis

12 Rounds. Primes. Yeah...
Louis with chin issues is a myth. You were thinking about his first fight with Max Schemling, who exposed his weakness by dropping his left after jabbing and got KO in 12. Guess what happens in the rematch? Louis KO Schmeling in 1 to avenge his earlier loss. You didn't watched Louis when he survived a knockdown against Jim Braddock and came back to KO him in 8 to win his World Heavyweight Title. You didn't watched Louis survived a knockdown against "Two Ton" Tony Galento as Louis came back to KO "Two Ton" in 4. You didn't watched Louis survived a knockdown against Buddy Baer in their first fight and Louis came back to batter Baer to retain his title. You didn't watched Louis survived the knockdowns against Jersey Joe Walcott in both fighters and guess what, Louis won both fights, first by controversial decision and KO 11.DrDuke wrote: ↑02 Jan 2021, 04:45 Holyfield would stop Louis. Holyfield was faster, Louis was opened enough for him and had chin issues. Holyfield had a great counter-punching abilities, while Schmeling had his major success with preparing counters, Holyfield could perform no worse.
Holyfield by KO in about 10.
I watched all that stuff and the fact of Louis being decked on numerous occasions obviously speaks for Louis' chin issues.scorpio83 wrote: ↑02 Jan 2021, 06:18Louis with chin issues is a myth. 12 Rounds is not enough, but in 15 rounds is better in the classic era of boxing.
Louis would adapt Holyfield's counter-punching and not to do the same mistake as those fights I mentioned by jabbing in his face to wear Holyfield down on the outside before knocking him out in 14 rounds after nailing him with heavy punches. If it was a series, then Louis may take 2-1 over Holyfield.
Right, Holy had it all and would KO Joe. Moreover, Holy was tougher, he could take the best of Louis.
Let's compare abilities
Left hook is close, maybe even better for Holy.gilgamesh wrote: ↑03 Jan 2021, 02:43Let's compare abilities
Left Hook: Louis
Right Hand: Louis
Chin: Holyfield
Defense: Even I'd say, but if I had to give an edge I'd say Holyfield
Body punching: Louis
Jab: Louis
Heart: Even
Stamina: Louis
Uppercut: Louis
Footwork: Holyfield
I don't know what else I'm forgetting, but you see Louis has the edge in most of these fields albeit only a slight edge as Holyfield doesn't have a bad left hook or right hand in his own right.
What Louis fights did you watch ?gilgamesh wrote: ↑03 Jan 2021, 02:43Let's compare abilities

I've seen the Baer, Braddock, Schmeling 2, Billy Conn, Marciano and Walcott fights. And a few of his lesser known foes from when he was older like I wanna say Cesar Brion or something like that.Evander wrote: ↑04 Jan 2021, 23:49What Louis fights did you watch ?gilgamesh wrote: ↑03 Jan 2021, 02:43Let's compare abilities

There is no way that Holyfield had a better defense. That was his biggest weakness. Louis was fundamentally sound and the the better of the two defensively. Otherwise agree with you. More often than not. Louis would win.gilgamesh wrote: ↑03 Jan 2021, 02:43Let's compare abilities

I strongly argee your a crazy idiot cause holy is way to advanced for him and the match would be over 1st round by ko from him
Agree with most of this except for defense. That always Holyfield's achilles heel. He was not hard to hit.gilgamesh wrote: ↑03 Jan 2021, 02:43Let's compare abilities

Doesn't matter joe wouldn't hit him way to stiff slow and missing of advances so what is your pointAmbling Alp II wrote: ↑19 Apr 2022, 15:57Agree with most of this except for defense.
