No - you still have to subscribe. It's just like the myriad of other niche pay per view sports channels on Sky.

Seems to be no clear plan at DAZN. Constant price hikes, no PPV to PPV, changes in contract terms and now trying the TV channel route. It seems the Russian billionaire is a bit of a silent partner who’s given the posh kid Markowski free reign to throw enough mud at the wall and hope something sticks.

My understanding is that they needed a channel on Sky to have DAZN be shown in pubs. I’d imagine it’s something to do with pub contracts with Sky that means they can only show stuff through Sky and no one else.

Having a channel on Sky isn’t crazy expensive. The Sky fee is around £100k a year for a channel and Sky can’t reject you unless completely valid. I.E. they can’t show bias but rejecting a channel simply because it’s a competitor to Sky Sports.

They’d also have to pay someone to broadcast their signal. I’ve always used Arqiva in the past which was €12k/month.

At the moment, DAZN 1 HD will only be available to new customers of DAZN and pre-existing customers who purchased a yearly subscription will not have access to the channel - which has left many of their customers fuming over the announcement.

DAZN 1 HD is currently unavailable to existing DAZN subscribers on monthly saver instalment plans and those paying for the annual super saver plan. Only users paying the monthly flexible pass (£19.99) will have access to DAZN 1 HD.

Alternatively, existing customers can watch DAZN 1 HD if they sign up with a new account. However, they will be billed twice each month, though, due to having two active subscriptions - because customers are unable to combine a new account with your existing contract.

So basically DAZN hiked all the prices up for subscribers, tried to coerce them into entering year long contracts, then all the while they were negotiating with SKY unbeknownst….. And existing DAZN subscribers will not have access to the SKY service, even though they may have signed for a year, unless they want to pay in addition.

Not really. I’ve been fairly happy with the content in March and the shows in April and May look strong and worth the money.

I, as I imagine most people do nowadays, have a smart TV and it’s 3 clicks to get on DAZN and watch it.

They are fornicating shite. Last week I thought "sod it" - I watch enough boxing (and PFL) on the app to justify the 100 quid for a year. Now I'm told I can't watch it on the Sky channel unless I take out a second contract or wait a year and pay for the "flexible" monthly option (£20 a month).

That wouldn't be hugely annoying if it weren't for the terrible app design, which insists on not giving you an option to start a live event from the beginning (I often turn it on to see replays of a knock-out, interview with a winner etc) or not allowing you to visually skim through stuff (as you can on Sky).

Amazing way to reward loyalty.
