Shit, what a tragedy.

I used to know him very well towards the back end of his career. A top fella.

Last saw him a few years ago.

God Bless and say a prayer for him, Isao Akay and the rest of his family

Knocked Roy Smith down four times to win the British cruiserweight title in 90 seconds this month in 1987, robbed of the title against Glenn McCrory, sparred a peak Tyson in the Catskills...he was a strong fighter.

Rest In Peace Champ.

very sad news.

I have his fight against Derek Angol on tape somewhere.

I'm sure he fought Evander Holyfield as an amateur whilst boxing for Ghana, maybe at the 84 Olympics.

Yes he is. A very nice man too.

I used to train at the All Stars about 15 years ago.

I remember going to see Tee Jay score a brutal KO over Roy Smith at Latchmere Leisure Centre.

Very Sad. How did he die?

Just awful. Akay & Mark Prince both.

I never knew Tee Jay but whenever I was at the All Stars on the Harrow Road and saw him there, he was always friendly & welcoming and loved to chat about his career. Akay made the All Stars the place it is today - a friendly vibrant gym, and Tee Jay was larger than life.

RIP champ. Condolences to Akay & family.

I'm part of the family and thank you all for you comments above. Tee Jay looked after himself and trained on a regular basis but unfortunately he died of a heart attack on Friday and we are all very much in shock.

We are trying to organise the service and burial asap, within Muslim tradition it should be withing a few days.

Isola Akay is planning a tribute at the All Stars gym as many wish to pay tribute. I will put a post up when the date is set.

Many thanks to all those who have been phoning over the last few days, you kind words are appreciated.

Does anybody have a copy of the above fight as his father would love to have a copy?

A tribute's a great idea, as that's where Tee Jay started. If you get any info, let us know. I'll be up for atending definately, as will others on here for sure.

Sat 27th May 2006

Funeral of Tee Jay Akay

11.30am – 12.30pm Regents Park Mosque, London
12.30pm – 1.30pm Prayers.

We then drive to Greenford cemetery for the burial.

Thereafter a reception will be held at the All Stars Boxing Gym
576, Harrow Road, London W10 4RH

As this is all happening so fast and many people have expressed that they would like to have some kind of remembrance for Tee Jay we have decided the following:
On 16th July 2006 between 2pm – 5pm
A Tribute to a Champion will be held at
All Stars Boxing Gym.

I will post details on this forum.

Thank you all for your kind words.

Tee won the British title in his seventh fight. Charlie Magri won a British title in his third fight. Apart from Charlie, who else won a British title as soon as Tee?
(This isn't a question I'm setting, by the way; I genuinely don't know).

Hope everything went well on Saturday and that there was a good turn-out for Tee-Jay's funeral. The tribute should be a well-attended event.
