Genius F.Warren gets Calzaghe another super-fight

Post by pundit »

Sakio Bika. What a name, what a man, what a fighter. The biggest, baddest puncher since Mike Tyson and Jeff Lacy. Bika has only been unlucky that his career hasn't been guarded as well as Lacy's. He got a draw with Markus Beyer, so fighting Bika is as good as fighting Beyer himself. It's even better because in Germany you always get robbed. Hence Bika really beat Beyer, and handsomely so, and Calzaghe is basically doing the same thing as Kessler on October 14, only better.

Bika is also much more versatile than Lacy or Beyer or Kessler. As proven by the fact that he can fight at light-middlweight as well as at super-middlweight. How many fighters can claim this? Bika could probably make heavyweight too. So Joe is taking on a potential heavyweight -- no more and no less than what fellow HOFer RJJ did, except that Bika doesn't hold as muhc as Ruiz.

In a nutshell, Bika is a top top top contender and simply the best available opponent for Joe Calzaghe out there. By far. I'm sure though that Joe will demolish Bika, as he would demolish everyone man who would step into a ring with him. There are simply no adequate opponents for Calzaghe out there. It's not Joe's fault or Warren's that Calzaghe is far too good for this world. :TU:

Aye Bika is a legend! Can't wait for this fight!

Infact I'd prefer to see Calzaghe-Bika, than Calzaghe-Beyer!

As it will be more competitive, since Bika gave Beyer all he could handle, meanwhile Kessler is fighting the guy Bika was getting the better of, just a few months back!

Yeah; isn't it a great move by F. Warren to have Joe fight Bika on the same day when Kessler is fighting Beyer. Bika hammered Beyer into the floor and got only robbed by a corrupt German refs, docs, judges, blitzkrieg fritzes and sausage cooks who saved a technical draw for Beyer when Beyer was just about to pass out, lose his virginity, bleed to death, and disappear alltogether from the face of this earth.

So noone will be interested in this pussy Kessler fighting the corps of Beyer when Joe fights Beyer's conqueror, the great Bika. Face it: Joe Calzaghe is having the true unification fight on October 14, not Kessler. And anyway, who is Kessler. No opponent is big enough for Joe, but if any comes remotely close to it it's Bika.

SN deserve all the stick they get. But maybe unwarranted in this case. My view is, most of you haven't seen Bika fight, nor do you guys know anything about him.

Let's clear up some myths:

1)Bika a junior middle? No way. He has fought under the MIDDLEWEIGHT limit by a pound for two. That means he has fought at middle. He has grown into super middle, and recently fought as high as 171. He was enough of a super middleweight to be in Gary Shaw's super middleweight tournament.

2) Bika losing to Soliman - this happened in his 2nd year as a pro. It was also an MD. How do we know it was even a fair decision?

Yesterday, I was sharing the opinion that Calzaghe should at least be fighting his mandatories like Markussen. I was outraged. But come on, could Markussen win 4 rds versus Beyer? Bollocks no. The Beyer fight was inconclusive, but he showed he wan't outclassed in elite competition. Give him credit, he was outjabbing a skilled southpaw which isn't easy. This man is no Ashira. & my guess is this won't be like the Harrison-Kebede face!

Give Bika a chance, he might just make a fight of it.

Just curious: did anyone complain when Scott Harrison was going to defend against St Clair?

The point is after all the posturing and bleating about the 'superfights' to come etc Calzaghe is fighting another no name opponent that no one gives a fart about. When these 'champions' fight only once or twice a year I think the public are entitled to see them fight a recognised and competitive opponent. Its bad management from Frank both ways really, the public will be deeply disinterested and dissapointed in this matchup (as has been illustrated already) but also Joe is on a hiding to nothing with this as well.... if he wins well it'll be so what, but if he looks bad or injures his hand again he can probably kiss goodbye to any 'mega fight' for another year. If his hand troubles are as bad as we are led to belive then every fight now for Joe should be a big fight because his hands have probably only got another 2 or 3 decent fights left in them if that....

if it's a competitive fight I'll be happy. let's not forget, Bika is a former world title challenger. Imagine how much confidence that gave him, to see Beyer and the German doctor worm their way into an early night!

Ideally, Bika should be steadily developed. He has good qualities that can be worke don. But based on his last fight I'd put him on an even standing with Lucian Bute and Librado Andrade. & if he can shoot for a title once, he can do it again.

Maybe it's because guys from Cameroon with funny names aren't that fashionable?

btw, he has a win over an all time great as well!

I agree with Vicious.

Hatton was getting the same stick for Callazo and he turned out to be underated.

I underated Callazo but I still think Hatton would be better off with Warren than Hobson.

I was one of those who suggested that Hatton return to Warren at the time, and I still believe there's no reason Warren couldn't or wouldn't have made those fights (though the Collazo fight might have been advised against, probably rightly so), the Maussa fight was the one Warren wanted Ricky to have when Ricky talked about Mayweather, Corralles and Castillo.

However, Hatton and Calzaghe are I think different animals. Although I'm sure neither of them are shy of making a bob or two, I think Hatton is a little hungrier to cram it all in there quickly, whereas Joe's career has been a slow (sometimes tedius) burning success with few genuine exhilarating highs but a prolonged stint at the top. Joe seems to me a man content with his career as it is. If he wasn't then surely he could have said ages ago

"I tell you what like, bollocks to this Frank, either you get me a fight with one of the other title holders, or I'm bloody well off like, I've had enough of this WBO title rubbish, I won't have it like, d'you hear?"

Fact is, he didn't and he does after all have the ability to make demands of his promoter as he isn't a slave. Sure, a promoter can use slight of hand to ensure that some of the bigger fights don't happen, but it's not like Calzaghe is a slave is it, he could have changed contracts at some point.

Collazo was a belt holder in a higher weightclass for Hatton

Bika is an unknown middleweight outside of 4 rounds against Beyer with no stand out wins on his record fighting for 2 titles against the number 1 in the divison

Let it go Max and stop clutching at them straws

As a fan of Calzaghe I thought you would be disapointed in his latest opponent but I feel you would be happy to see him fight anyone. Clutching at straws by mentioning his height as a way to justify Bika as a challenger.

Well I havent seen Bika fight so I don't know wether to be dissapointed. He drawed with Beyer and was ahead on one card, yet he's considered not as worthy as Beyer, so it's only because Beyer holds a belt.

Errrm no I didn't say I'd be happy he fought anyone, thats your accusation.

I thought Callazo wasn't a worthy challenge and he turned out to be and he won the WBA paper title and thats what it was until Zab lost.
To be fair to Max I'm the same with Big Aud' and he's done fook all!
Audley got exposed by Williams who trained on pizzas and kipling cakes, no way can you compare him to Joe's achievements! :o

Aren't you disappointed he's fighting someone you've never seen though considering he's top dog in the divison? A TD after 4 rounds doesn't mean a belt is all that's different between Bika and Beyer. Has Bika beaten anyone you've ever heard of?

Collazo may have been a paper champ but it was still a fight in a higher division. You could probably compair Hatton vs Collazo to Calzaghe vs Woods not Calzaghe vs Bika

Well he has to stay busy and if he didn't fight till he got a big name then he'd barely only fight once a year. If Bika troubled Beyer then he's a decent stay busy fight. He's not on the level of the old WBO defences.

Ain't heard of anyone he's beaten no.

It is defferent, Beyer is only considered more worthy because of his belt just like Kessler.

I just don't understand Calzaghe some times. One week he fights Lacy the next he takes the piss. I don't understand why he will not fight Froch, I think Froch is a few fights away from beating calzaghe but he has called him out and would certainly be a more legitimate defender than this guy who has beaten little of note.

Bika is better than froch. 4 rounds of abusing beyer with a fine left jab is enough to have him rated a couple of notches above Carl. Sure Froch has done all that's been asked given that he beat Barney & Magee. He might even be underated because he looks so amateurish beating these decent guys.

This guy Bika is a bit of a road warrior, and it wasn't his fault the Beyer fight was cut short. Also, did Beyer really have 50 stitches. Were these figures massaged to save face? Joe Cortez felt Beyer was ok to carry on, as the cut was UNDER his eye. Did Beyer quit because he didn't want to lose, or was he going to bleed to death as Pundit hints?

In a nutshell, Bika's just as promising as young prospects Bute and Andrade, but he gets thrown into more crises than those guys. Yes, I know, a prosepct shouldn't really challenge for a title. But guess what, he's a former WBC challenger and looked very comfortable in a world title fight in Germany.

IMo there's no need to complain about Bika The biggest complaint is that he didn't try & grab Kessler or Beyer when he had the chance. Given a choice I'd watch Kessler-Beyer, but I won't be surprised if Joe has a few problems in there on Oct 14.

Calzaghe is a waste of space and breath.

Any momentum he gained beating Lacy has been truly lost now as we go through the usual shit. Sorry but Bika is not that good, I've seen the Beyer fight and he looked ok against him but Beyer lost to Sanavia and Catley for fucks sake.

Come on, what did Holmes do post Cooney?

Beyer didn't deserve to lose to Sanavia, and Sanavia is a good boxer - certainly better than anything Calzaghe faced between 2004-Lacy. Consider, beyer beat Woodhall in what, his THIRD YEAR as a pro, and lost to Catley a couple of defenses later. No crime. Think of all the good fighters who lose fights while still learning, in the first 3 or 4 yrs as pros, you will see more than one on the records of Margarito, Mormeck, Castillo
