Flex Your Researching Muscle

Post by Ric »

BoxRec.com offers researchers and the casual visitor a lot of information and tools these days. Here's a test, to see who "has the hang" of these tools. Tell me: What was the final fight held at Los Angeles's Olympic Auditorium?

And tell me how you found the answer. (If you happened to have known the answer off the top of your head, please do not answer. I want someone to use the BoxRec research tools to find the answer.)

6/10/05

From the front page, select 'State', choose California as your state, then search backwards from '07.

Kind of a pain in the ass to use to find a particular venue but whatever.

There's a quicker way to find it. Should take only one or two minutes at the most to locate the answer.

Final boxing show was held June 10, 2005, with Vernie Torres winning an 8 round technical decision over Salvador Casillas.

I found it by
1. Going to Encyclopedia
2. once there I went to Categories A-Z
3. Found Los Angles Venues
4. Went to Olympic Stadium
5. Read this in the trivia at the bottom

Like you said I did it in about 2 minutes

I used my superior brain power to simply read this thread down to it's last entry and I had the answer in seconds.

Nicely done. :TU: Another way would have been to type in "Olympic Auditorium" in the Wiki Encyclopedia search box, and go through the search results given. Of course, this assumes the answer was provided by some Editor in the Wiki. If not, then JC's suggestion, although laborious, would probably have to be the way to go.

Is this a round-a-bout way of promoting the Encyclopedia feature of BoxRec?

It's a way to remind folks of the great research tool the Wiki is, particularly if you use the search feature. More and more is being added every day.

More on that search feature here:
