Fighting in front of a hometown Oakland crowd at Oracle Arena in California, Andre Ward advanced in the 'Super Six' super middleweight tournament by winning every round and a twelve round unanimous decision to retain his WBA super middleweight title over an outclassed Allen Green, who had replaced ex-middleweight champion Jermain Taylor in the tournament. Ward landed and scored with overhand lefts and rights, jabs, lead left hands, right crosses and uppercuts all night, and had Green in big trouble in the seventh round with the number of punches landing. Green took the fight to the inside, but could not match the punch count and the many different types of punches coming in from the get go, and in the end, hung tough only to survive the bout. Ward will next fight fellow Olympic teammate Andre Dirrell, while Green will face Mikkel Kessler in the next round of the Super Six tournament. For his part, 'Ghost Dog' Green was the first fighter from Oklahoma to appear in a world title bout since Tommy Morrison in 1993.
