Three months before, Charley Phil Rosenberg had forfeited the "undisputed" World Title by appearing in a title bout overweight. By virtue of this bout with Bell, Baldock was declared the World Champ by the British boxing authorities. (Bell would later face Pete Sanstol for another version of the bantam crown.)
