After his professional boxing career ended, Billy Burke relocated to California. While there he was the head trainer for the Oakland Oaks of the Pacific Coast League of minor league baseball, as well as at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). He was also a referee, based primarily out of the Bay Area while in California.

Burke also trained Richmond, California Welterweight Earl Turner in 1945.
