"Billy Conn, 167, despite the fact that he won the decision from Fred Apostoli, 161, in their first meeting on January 6th, went into this one the underdog in the betting. He looked like the underdog for the first three rounds as Apostoli waded in with both hands. All rules were off as they were both throwing low punches and Conn was doing some slick back-handing. It was all Apostoli during those first three rounds as Apostoli, coming in out of a crouch, was rushing Conn to the ropes and had him bleeding from a cut under the left eye. But in the 4th Conn got control of the situation. His left began to stab, stab, stab against Apostoli's face. Back to the ropes they would go with Apostoli bulling and piling on top of Conn. Then, like lightning, Conn's left would flash and Apostoli would take four around the head before he could get his hands up. When the voice came through the loudspeaker - 'the winner - Conn' - the customers rattled the rafters with their cheers." -United Press
- Unofficial AP scorecard (the UP did not announce a card) - 8-6-1 Conn
- Apostoli's NYSAC middleweight title was not at stake as both combatants weighed in above 160.
