Dave Gallardo was a Featherweight contender during the early-to-mid 1950s. Between February 1952 and April 1954, he was ranked as high as the #3 featherweight in the world by The Ring'' magazine]]. He was the California State Featherweight Champion from October 1952 to December 1956.

After he was stopped in six round by Bobby Scanlon on March 21, 1957, he announced that he was going into business with his manager Jimmy Hamilton at a water softener business in the Los Angeles area.

He was inducted into the California Boxing Hall of Fame in 2009.
