The non-profit International Boxing Research Organization (IBRO) was created May 1982 by boxing historians from throughout the world. It currently has about 150 members, most of whom are Editors.

The IBRO was organized for the express purposes of: compiling complete and accurate boxing records; disseminating boxing research information; and cooperating in safeguarding the individual research efforts of its members by application of rules of scholarly research.

Members exchange their boxing research findings, and the many requests for assistance from outsiders, primarily through email, a Quarterly Journal, and periodic newsletters. Membership is open to anyone having an interest in boxing history.
