‘’‘Destiny Day-Owens’’’ (born February 15, 1995) is an American professional boxer from Baltimore, Maryland. Known by the nickname ‘’’“Lady Tyson,”’’’ she is an undefeated two-division world champion who has held the Universal Boxing Federation female welterweight world title and the Women’s International Boxing Association super welterweight world title.
Day-Owens is recognized as the first female boxer from Baltimore to win a professional world championship. As of September 2026, her professional record stands at 14 wins, no losses and 9 victories by knockout.
Early life
Day-Owens was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. She grew up in the Park Heights neighborhood and attended Frederick Douglass High School.
She began boxing at approximately 19 years old. Day-Owens trained under Baltimore boxing coach Mack Allison at the Time 2 Grind Boxing Gym. Her powerful punching style and aggressive approach inside the ring led to her receiving the nickname “Lady Tyson.”
Amateur career
Day-Owens compiled a successful amateur career before entering the professional ranks. She won regional Golden Gloves championships in 2015, 2016 and 2018. She also competed in the Baltimore Mayor’s Cup and Queen of the Ring tournament.
Her amateur experience helped prepare her for a professional style built around physical strength, pressure, combinations and punching power.
Professional career
Day-Owens made her professional debut on January 26, 2019, at the Waldorf Cultural Center in Waldorf, Maryland. She defeated Michaele Nogue by four-round split decision.
She earned her second professional victory on November 16, 2019, defeating Dasha Ragland by unanimous decision at La Fontaine Bleue in Glen Burnie, Maryland.
Day-Owens continued building her undefeated record while competing internationally. On December 22, 2022, she defeated Colombia’s Katerin Tobon by first-round stoppage in Santa Marta, Colombia.
WIBA world championship
On September 22, 2023, Day-Owens faced veteran Colombian boxer Paulina Cardona for the vacant Women’s International Boxing Association super welterweight world championship at the Coliseo de Pescaito David Ruiz Ureche in Santa Marta, Colombia.
Day-Owens defeated Cardona by split decision over ten rounds to capture the WIBA world title. The victory made her the first female professional boxer from Baltimore to win a world championship.
UBF world championship
On May 17, 2025, Day-Owens returned to Santa Marta, Colombia, for a rematch with Katerin Tobon. The vacant Universal Boxing Federation female welterweight world championship was contested in the bout.
Day-Owens defeated Tobon to capture the UBF world championship at 147 pounds. The victory made her a two-division world champion, having previously won the WIBA championship at 154 pounds.
