In the curtain raiser of this card, future World Champion Freddie Steele fought his final amateur bout -- defeating Red (Kid) Benedict. The following day, Bercot was appointed the matchmaker for the Earl Faulkner Post of the Everett American Legion Post. (Faulkner was an Everett boy who had been killed in action in France during World War I.) Bercot replaced Fred Bruny, who had resigned to manage a string of Everett and Bellingham boxers.
