"A surprisingly aggressive Eddie Machen knocked out trial horse Ollie Wilson of Miami, Fla., in 2:19 of the 6th round of their scheduled 10-rounder Monday night. Machen, from the outset, was the aggressor, but Wilson stood toe-to-toe with him in an exciting 5th round. Wilson was knocked partly off balance and took a mandatory eight. In the 6th Machen finally hammered him down in a neutral corner and he took the 10 count on one knee from referee Jimmy Wilson." -Associated Press
- This was Machen's first bout in 14 months after suffering a nervous breakdown.
- Original opponent, Alonzo Johnson, pulled out of this bout with the flu but the promoter rescheduled them for October 12th.
