In 1941 Eddie Saunders scored seven consecutive knock outs, fighting unattached, winning the New York Daily News Golden Gloves' open championship stopping Anthony DeRosa of the Municipal PG at 0:25 of the 2nd, before being knocked out by Charley (Deacon) Burley in the final of the New York Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions at welterweight and he also represented New York at Intercity Golden Gloves Tournament at welterweight.
