Quinonez vs Macias III (Rubber Match)

UBF Lightweight title bout

Steve Quinonez (19-3-1,9 KO's) battled Sergio Macias (12-8-0, 5 KO's), three years after they lost fought. The first two collisions were highly exciting fights, which was a no brainer for promoters to make the "rubber match" become a reality. Coming into the bout Quinonez bounced back from a lost to Diego Corrales, by defeating Rafael Olvera for World Boxing Board lightweight title, now another belt was up for grabs the Universal Boxing Federation (UBF), lightweight title. Unable to knockout the tough and rugged Macias, Quinonez once again had to settle for a decision victory and becoming the UBF champion.

Quinonez Vs Macias 1: Macias was responsible for giving Quinonez his first loss as a professional on 12-28-1995, the first match was on the under-card of Ernesto Magdaleno the former USBA light heavyweight champion tragically died three days later in a car accident. Macias defeated Quinonez by a decision in a 4 round bout. The bout was a back and forth war between two great prospects.


Quinonez Vs Macias 2: The two face off once again on 08-26-1996, this time the rematch bumps up to 8 rounds, Quinonez gets his revenge as he defeats Macias by decision. The crowd are on their feet in this rematch and both fighters put everything behind their punchers,fans get their moneys worth. Quinonez impressed so many including promoter Goosen Tutor.
