The was a dull bout, per the Honolulu Star-Bulletin. Akins was content to box cautiously, with the exception of the 8th round, when he hammered and dominated Harrington. Ken Misumi of the Star-Bulletin felt Harrington gave the poorest local performance since his loss to Ramon Fuentes in September 1957. Harrington was cut over his right eye in the 6th round.
