Lighter weighing cruiserweight Zack Page won an upset over Kevin McBride, fighting at the heavyweight limit as a late replacement for Robert Hawkins. Page was faster and more aggressive than McBride, landing right-left jab combinations and left hands with consistency, Page kept aggressively throwing sharp punches on the move at his bigger, slower opponent, outworking him to win all eight rounds. McBride failed in his comeback after three years inactivity, an overweight and out-of-shape shell of his former self, taking a good punch and holding to survive but offering little or no offense. Page, a veteran of 52 pro bouts (30 since 2007) proved again his 21-29-2 record was deceiving, having also beaten 19-0 Sebastian Koeber in Germany in 2010. McBride, at 6'6 and 282 pounds, was six inches taller and 75 pounds heavier than Page, but appeared flat-footed, unable to chase or land, providing Page an easy target. McBride, famous for holding the win that retired Mike Tyson in 2005, probably ended his own career with this loss. McBride had sustained a broken back, ankle and wrist in incidents before this bout and failed to overcome these injuries. In addition, longtime Marvin Hagler trainer Goody Petronelli was injured shortly before this bout, and was not in McBride's corner vs Page.
