- Eden Sonsona went up two divisions, from 122 pounds to 130 pounds, to challenge for this WBC title.
- Experienced Filipino southpaw Sonsona won for the first time outside of his native Philippines. Sonsona came out head hunting in round one, opening the bout throwing dangerous wild looping lefts which missing the mark. In round two, a hard right hook thrown by Sonsona to the head of Estrella pitched the 22-0 Estrella face forward to the canvas. Estrella beat the count but was unable to continue, ending the contest at 0:27.
