Benny Bass 123 lbs beat Mickey Doyle 124 lbs by KO in round 5 of 10
- Date: 1927-07-14
- Location: Artillery Park, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, USA
- Referee: Al Jannetti
- Judge: Larry Kendig
- Judge: Eddie Gerrity
This bout had a controversial finish, as Doyle was floored with what appeared to be a low blow. Doyle rose at nine, waded into Bass, but was felled quickly by a right hand blow at the belt line, but apparently fair. Doyle took the ten count on his back. The ring doctor examined Doyle, and determined he had been fouled, but Doyle had forfeited his opportunity to win on a foul when he had failed to stay down for the ten-count after the apparent low blow had put him down the first time. The Wilkes-Barre Record accused Bass of fighting a dirty bout, as he headbutted Doyle in the 4th round, and appeared to take advantage of what they felt was a poor refereeing job by Al Jannetti.
