Joe Bonds beat Fred Grant by KO in round 4 of 4

  • Date: 1916-05-09
  • Location: Tivoli Theater, Seattle, Washington, USA
  • Referee: Lonnie Austin

Pacific Northwest Heavyweight Title

"The big fellows jostled around the ring for four rounds with Grant spending the time protecting his face and Bonds belting his opponent on the top of the head, which hurt none but Bonds. Referee Lonnie Austin worked harder than either of the fighters. The only damage inflicted was to a pair of perfectly good boxing gloves, which were wrecked with constant contact with Grant's dome." Everett Daily Herald

A couple of days before this bout, Frank Farmer and Joe Bonds were scheduled to have another fight in their long rivalry, at nearby Eatonville, Wash, and then Bonds would once again retire after this bout with Fred Grant. [1] But when they showed up, the crowd was so small that everyone on the card decided to fight "exhibitions" instead. [2]
