"The battle of Little Rock was on again. Sikes and McCarthy, give and take, performed before a large house and put on a savage brawl that seldom was witnessed in any Arkansas ring. Bob won this one with a sensational five-round kayo, having to do the iron-man stunt. In the fourth Bob shot a deadly six-incher hook and followed with a right that crumpled McCarthy like a fallen ox. The latter gamely managed to struggle to both knees at the count of ten. The referee, Jimmy Watts, raised Bob's arm in victory but this decision was not so to the jittery Lou Jackson, Johnny's manager. Jackson went one better by shoving Watts aside and took over referee duties himself. McCarthy, accepting this cue, tore into Sikes. The Dixie Dynamo, infuriated, let go both barrels to the head and body. Johnny went down and was saved by the bell at the five count. The fatal fifth followed with a toe-to-toe slugging session and a game and courageous McCarthy went down for keeps. A total of five knockdowns was registered, four beeing copped by Sikes".
