Bout Summary

  • In round one, Robert Hines develops a small cut to the corner of the left eye.
  • In round two, stuck on the ropes and absorbing heavy Hilton punches, Hines is seemingly nearly knocked out cold by a series of Hilton power shots, but supported by the ropes and partially Hilton himself, before finally being given a count by the referee. Hines continues the round, glassy eyed yet defiant, taking the fight to Matthew Hilton.
  • Hines begins to bleed from the nose in round three, and begins developing swelling to both eyes.
  • With less than half a minute left in the third, Hines is knocked down for the second time, this time sent scrambling to the mat by a flush Hilton overhand right.
  • With 30 seconds to go in the fifth, Hilton again traps and batters Hines along the ropes with a series of hard punches to the body and head, stunning him. He is unable to mount a consistent offense by this point however, only fighting in spurts, and Hines again survives.
  • Hilton's blows below the belt of Hines, a theme of the fight, eventually costs him a point in round 8.
  • As the bout enters it's second half, Hines increasingly finds it easier to land his southpaw right jab on the jab of an exhausted and wild punching Matthew Hilton.
  • Exhausted and doing nothing but absorbing heavy punishment, with the commentators speculating on whether the fight should be stopped, Hilton develops a cut under the left eye and a nose bleed in round 11.
