Top-ranked middleweight Lamar Parks maintained his undefeated record with a first-round knockout of Jose Luis Lopez in Charleston, South Carolina. Parks raised his record to 22-0 with 18 knockouts. The victory set the stage for a mandatory title bout with WBA champion Reggie Johnson later this year.
Parks took control swiftly and ended the fight at 2:29 when a barrage of punches sent Lopez to the canvas. He got up but was in no shape to continue and referee Harry Hitopoulos stopped the bout.
According to the newspaper report, Lopez entered with a record of 15-2.
