Jimmy McLarnin beat Mickey Gill by MD in round 7 of 7
- Date: 1923-12-28
- Location: Hastings Gym, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
- Referee: Perry Queenan
- Judge: Johnny Lees
- Judge: Harry Anderson
- Promoter: Jim Tracey
As of year 2010, this was believed to be future World Champion Jimmy McLarnin's professional debut.
Other of his Vancouver bouts of this era, such as listed in the Boxing Register--the International Boxing Hall of Fame's Official Book--are amateur bouts, according to BoxRec research to date.
- "After seven rounds of furious milling, at the conclusion of which there was little advantage to either boy, Jimmy McLarnin, former amateur flyweight champion of British Columbia, was given a majority decision over Mickey Gill in the feature event at the Hastings gym last evening. It was one of the cleverest exhibitions seen here in many moons and the little fellows received a big hand from the packed house for their pains. For some unknown reason the youngsters were sent an extra round. They had shaken hands at the end of the sixth, but were allowed to go to their corners when some fan called out 'Another round yet,' and they came together for the seventh. Gill lost the seventh round without a question and the extra distance undoubtedly worked against him in the call. Perry Queenan refereed and Johnny Lees and Harry Anderson acted as Judges."

This was Gill's pro debut according to the newspaper. (But he already had two bouts south in Bellingham WA, under the moniker of "Homer Smith"). McLarnin had fought Gill twice before when they were still amateur stable-mates.
