The state-wide Four-Round Era originated November 1914, when voters of California, USA, approved a statutory amendment limiting bouts to a maximum of four rounds, and the value of a prize to a maximum of $25.00 for a boxer. (This is not to be confused with San Francisco's four-rounder era of the early 1900s. [1])

Ten years later, in November 1924, voters legalized 10 round decision bouts, and 12 round no decision bouts, effective January 1, 1925.

The first show consisting of more than four rounds that ended the four-round era was conducted January 2, 1925.
