Frank Gaudes worked as a taxi driver after his boxing career, working until at least the mid-1990s in the profession. In 1946, Gaudes was one of 21 cab drivers who formed the City Veteran Taxi Cooperative, consisting of war veterans who could not break the monopoly held by two Milwaukee cab companies: Checker and Yellow. (The Veteran Taxi Cab Cooperative still exists to this day.)

Gaudes had three older brothers originally from Saint Boniface, Manitoba who boxed; Pete Gaudes, Johnny Gaudes and Sam Gaudes (who boxed as Sid Kelley), as well as a younger brother Tony Gaudes. He presumably was born there as well, and moved to Milwaukee, where all of them fought.
