Notes
- Fourth consecutive decision loss for Johnson, 43, probably ending his distinguished ring career.
- Fine technical win for Groves, winning 35 of 36 scored rounds on the three judges's scorecards. Groves gave Johnson a bad beating in the seventh round but the fight was not stopped though it could have been.
- Groves knocked Johnson down in the twelfth round, though Johnson appeared to fall more from being off balance.
- Johnson had some good moments of offense in the third round, but mostly remained with his guard up on the defensive eating punches as a shell of his former self.
- 16-0 Groves, world ranked as WBO # 2, WBA # 5, WBC # 6, IBF # 7 and BoxRec # 12 at the time of this bout, did not accomplish much with this win. Johnson appeared muscular physically but too old to produce an offense, as he was too old.
