A clean right hand in the opening minute of the fifth round caught Noe Gonzalez coming forward and sent the Uruguayan down heavily to all fours for a count of five. Despite Gonzalez making it to his feet, the referee waved an end to the bout as Gonzalez stood on shaky legs. Gonzalez's corner threw in the towel almost simultaneously with the referee's stoppage.
Groves improved to 19-0 (15 KOs), with his three most recent wins having come via knockouts inside of five rounds. It was the second knockout loss in the professional career of Gonzalez, who's record fell to 30-3 (22 KOs).
