Georges Bernard began his career in 1909. He was just 18 when he fought Dixie Kid for the welterweight championship--the first Frenchman to battle for a world title. (He also reportedly won the French middleweight title in June 1914 from Marcel Moreau.)
Bernard was killed in action in World War I in an airplane accident. He had fought an exhibition with Bob Scanlon two weeks before his death.
