- 1982 German light middleweight National Amateur Champion
- Brother of Ralf Rocchigiani
- Won the vacant IBF world super middleweight championship on March 11, 1988 with an 8th round TKO of Vincent Boulware.
- Won the WBC light heavyweight championship on March 21, 1998, after beating Michael Nunn via a split decision.
- Had other notable fights with Dariusz Michalczewski, Chris Eubank, Thulani Malinga and Henry Maske.
- He is also known for the controversy surrounding his WBC light heavyweight title, when the WBC subsequently downgraded Rocchigiani's status to "interim champion" and restored the world title to Roy Jones Jr., who had vacated the belt to pursue fights at heavyweight, then changed his mind and returned to the division.
- Rocchigiani successfully sued the WBC and forced it to file bankruptcy. He came to an undisclosed agreement with the organization and his status as WBC light heavyweight champion was restored from March 28, 1998 (when he defeated Nunn) to April 15, 2000 (when he lost to Dariusz Michalczewski).
- Rocchigiani died in Italy when he was run over by a car while taking a walk.
