"Vito Antuofermo of the United States became the new world middleweight champion Saturday night when he scored a split decision over Hugo Corro of Argentina in a bruising 15 round bout. Antuofermo, born in Italy and now living in New York, won six of the last seven rounds to eke out a narrow decision. The closing rounds turned into a slugging match, and Antuofermo had the better of it. Time and again Antuofermo used his shoulders to pin Corro against the ropes, then snapped home lefts to the head and body." -Associated Press
