In 1950 Frankie Ryff of the PAL won the New York Daily News Golden Gloves' open championship at featherweight vs. Salvatore DiGuardia, the New York Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions vs, Noel Humphreys at featherweight and the Intercity Golden Gloves' championship at featherweight vs. Pies Gilmore.
In 1951 representing the PAL he won the New York Daily News Golden Gloves' open championship at featherweight vs. Bernard Lynn. He also won the New York Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions at featherweight vs. Tommy Maddox of Buffalo, NY by decision. Ryff trained at the Police Athletic League.
