Brian G. Doherty, born October, 1957 was alderman of the 41st Ward of the City of Chicago. First elected to the Chicago City Council in 1991, Doherty represented portions of the city's Northwest Side, including O'Hare International Airport.
During that time, Doherty was the only Republican in Chicago's council.

As an 112 lb. amateur boxer, Doherty was a Golden Glove finalist/Sectional champion, in February of 1973 and won the Chicago Park District flyweight title the following month. The next winter Doherty moved up to bantamweight and won a Chicago Golden Gloves City title in 1974.

Doherty fought as a amateur boxer out of La Follette Park in Chicago Illinois for coach Pat La Cassa.

Amateur boxing for charity

In 1997, Alderman Doherty volunteered to do some amateur boxing for a charity event called ' The Roar At The Shore'. The amateur boxing show was held at the South Shore Cultural Center on Chicago's South side. Republican Alderman Doherty was matched up with a fellow North Side Chicago Alderman, Democrat of Chicago's 38th Ward Tom Allen. Alderman Allen a former basketball player may or may not have been a wee bit taller, but Doherty was several years younger, along with being a former Chicago Golden Gloves Champion.

Fortunately, the charity match was only three one minute rounds with 18 oz. gloves. The charity bout went on, with professional referee Pete Podgorski officiating the contest. Both men went head to head banging with the oversized 18 oz gloves. The match went the three one minute rounds with Doherty scoring the only knockdown. Doherty was awarded the victory, and both Alderman touched gloves and smiled with respect for each other at the conclusion of the match.
