In 1929 Jackie Davis of of Springfield, IL (who is the same fighter as Jackie Davis of Chicago), made the final of the the Chicago Golden Gloves Tournament at featherweight, the decision was awarded to Barney Ross. Representing Chicago he won the Intercity Golden Gloves at featherweight in the 2nd division vs. James Quinn. Davis had a distinguished professional career where he was a long time contender at featherweight and Junior Lightweight though never getting a title shot. Became a respected boxing referee after his professional fighting career ended.
