Al Hostak 165 lbs lost to Jack Snapp 162 lbs by SD in round 10 of 10

Hostak began the fight cautiously, barely throwing a punch in the 1st round, as he ducked an active Snapp's blows. In the 2nd and 3rd, Snapp began to bounce around the ring, which befuddled Hostak, who chased him around the ring with his right hand cocked and ready to hit Snapp.

In the 4th, Hostak finally caught up with Snapp, who had dropped his hands, and nailed him with a hard right hand and left high on the head that hurt Snapp. Snapp quickly tied up Hostak, and rode out the remainder of the round by clinching. The 5th and 6th round were fairly even, as was the 7th, until Snapp pounded Hostak to the head and body, which appeared to have the 32-year old former Middleweight champion gasping for air.

In the 8th round, Hostak came out with a two-handed assault to the head and body, that had Snapp appearing dazed. However, Snapp responded with a right hand to Hostak's jaw, which buckled Hostak's knees and appeared to nearly have him headed to the canvas, until the bell rang to end the round.

Snapp who felt he had built up a significant lead over Hostak, got on his bicycle over the last two rounds, to capture the split decision victory.

Figures

  • Attendance: 3,754
  • Gate: $11,491
  • Hostak's undisclosed guarantee was reported to have been the largest ever received by a boxer in Portland boxing history. If this was true, his purse would have exceeded Gus Lesnevich's purse of $12,500 for facing Joe Kahut in 1946.
