Jackie Kenny came to America at the age of three when his family migrated to New Jersey and settled in the town of Livingston.

His uncle was "Wild" Bert Kenny, who had lost a ten-round newspaper decision to future World Heavyweight Champion Jack Dempsey in 1916.

Jackie Kenny was managed by Tommy O'Dowd and trained by Jess Harrington.
